Press Release June 21, 2009 - 06/23/2009  07:22 AM

Ben Otto went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI’s, and the Eau Claire Cavaliers used a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to grab a nonleague victory Wednesday night a 7-6 win over the Chippewa Falls Lumberjacks in Chippewa Falls.  Mark Shaver picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs and striking out two.

The Eau Claire Cavaliers rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Rochester Royals Thursday night.

A walk, and an error, a bunt and two doubles later, Eau Claire (13-11) was on top for the first time in the game.

After scoring their first run of the game, the Cavaliers saw a tie game quickly dissipate as Dave Timmons took a first pitch fastball and shot it onto the fan deck in right field.

The runs cane aplenty in the eighth as first baseman Lance Poppy led off the inning with a walk.  Designated Hitter Ryan Iverson reached on an error and there were two runners on and catcher Kyle Trewyn put down a perfect bunt, advancing both runners.

Hot hitter Andy Abromaitis hit a line drive into left field that bounced past left fielder Nick Obey and scored both pinch runner Soya Aoki and Iverson. Ben Otto followed with a hard double into left field, plating Abromaitis.

A run would score in the top of the night for the Royals, but Chevy Tomlinson came in with two outs and earned the save.

The Eau Claire Cavaliers exploded for 11 runs in the second inning and that was more than enough for a 22-3 seven-inning victory over the Rochester Blues.

The Cavs didn’t waste any time, scoring two in the first inning, including a solo home run by designated hitter Ty Fadness.  Eau Claire also saw a home run by Eau Claire North graduate Ryan Iverson---his first in a Cavalier uniform.  The Cavaliers used their entire roster by getting some different people getting some innings of work.

Keeping the team fresh presented the biggest challenge for Eau Claire as every member of the team played a part in the victory.

On top of the offensive dominance, starting pitcher Ben Kincaid was at the top of his game, allowing no runs and two hits while walking two and striking out five in four innings.

Tyler Martin entered in relief and struck out five in three innings while allowing three unearned runs.

Matt Miller and Ty Fadness combined to drive in seven runs as the Eau Claire Cavaliers ran their winning streak to five games with a 12-6 victory over the Exeland Braves on Sunday in Exeland.

Miller went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and four RBI’s while Fadness finished 2-for-five with a run scored and three RBI’s.  Ben Kincaid drove in a pair of runs for the Cavs, who got 10 RBI’s from their top four batters.

Chevy Tollefson there the final three innings, allowing just one run to earn the victory.

The Cavaliers travel to Red Wing to face the Aces Tuesday June 23rd at 7:30PM and they entertain Taylor County June 24th at home game time 7:30.  The Cavaliers have doubleheader June 27th facing St. Paul Red Rooster at 4:00 PM and St. East Side Merchants at 7:30PM.  Sunday the Cavaliers have a doubleheader with the Sparta Millers starting at 1:00PM.
