The Eau Claire Cavaliers lost to the Schofield Everest Merchants 9-3. The Cavaliers fell behind 6-0 in the first inning. Eau Claire’s primary offensive blow came when right fielder Soya Aoki took an inside change up and deposited it onto the fan deck in right field in the bottom of the 3rd scoring himself and shortstop Ben Otto and a run scoring slow roller to Merchants third baseman Brad Chrudimski by Ryan Iverson to score Ben Otto for the Cavaliers last run in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap to 9-3 to run their record to 2-4.
On Saturday May 30th the Cavaliers split their Wisconsin State League opener with Manitowoc with Matt Miller and Ben Sebesta combined to drive in five runs in the nightcap victory 6-2.
The Bandits won the opener 3-1. Ben Sebesta, an Eau Claire Memorial gradate drove in three runs and Matt Miller went 4-for 4 with 2 RBI’s to lead the Cav’s offense. Tyler Martin allowed just five hits and struck out three to earn the victory in the second game.
Manitowoc pitcher Joe Christensen handcuffed Eau Claire (3-5,1-1) in the opener giving up just four hits and striking out eight. Ben Kincaid another Memorial graduate drove in the Cav’s only run.
Sunday the Manitowoc Bandits on scores of 10-3 and 12-10 swept the Cavaliers and took three of four from the Cavaliers. Alex Burian went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI’s but it wasn’t enough to help the Cavaliers salvage the second game of the doubleheader.
Lance Poppy went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s for the Cavaliers in the second game. Poppy, Brady Sand and Soya Aoki drove in runs in the opener.
The Cavaliers are on the road this week with single games at Lake City, MN Tuesday June 2nd at 7:30. A single game at Hastings, MN at 7:30 and travel to Lombard Illinois to play a 4 game series with the First Place Orioles Saturday June 6th with a doubleheader starting at 5:00PM and a doubleheader Sunday June 7th starting at 12:00 PM
