Mark McHorney - Field Manager


Mark McHorneyMark was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. After graduating from Marquette University in 1974, he began his coaching career by revitalizing the baseball program at New Jersey Boystown.

Returning to the Midwest in 1976, Mark became involved in coaching and officiating baseball in West Allis, Wi. In 1986 Mark moved to the Chippewa Valley and continued coaching baseball at various levels in the area.

Mark became involved as an assistant coach at Regis High School in 1992, becoming the Head Coach in 1996 where he remained for 12 years. He guided the Ramblers to their first C.W.C.C. Conference Crown in over 20 years in 1999 and their first Western Cloverbelt Baseball title in 2005. His teams made appearances in both WISAA and WIAA State Baseball Tournaments. The 2002 team won the first State Title for Regis High School in any sport as a member of the WIAA, capturing the Division 3 championship and the 2007 team finished as State Runner up.

In 1999 Mark was named CWCC Coach of the year. In 1997 he attended a Fantasy Baseball Camp at the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Facility in Florida. He worked with such notables as Kent Tekulve and Clint Hurdle.

Mark and his wife Ruth have been married for 34 years, and have three grown children, Mark, Maureen and Mike and two grandchildren, Nyah and Devon. He is employed as a Claims Supervisor by United Health Group, here in Eau Claire.

Mark will be joined by long time colleagues John Nicolai and Steve Page, and they all look forward to continuing the fine tradition of amateur baseball that has been established in the Chippewa Valley by the Eau Claire Cavaliers.

 

John Nicolai - Assistant Coach


John NicoliaJohn Nicolai was born and raised in Eau Claire and attended the parochial school system. He graduated from UW- Eau Claire in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. John worked as a Quality Control Engineer for Uniroyal Tire Company (Uniroyal/Goodrich) until the plant closure in 1992.

John has played baseball from the age of 12, starting with the first year of the Eau Claire Little League program in 1952. He played 3 years of baseball for Regis High School and 4 years with the UWEC Blugolds. John played 12 years of semi-pro baseball in the Eau Claire area, the first years with Lake Hallie Lakers and the last 9 years with Twin City Sports. In his semi-pro career he learned some of the finer points of the game by playing against such noted players as Ron Buckli, Harv Tomter and Randy Millis.

John has been an assistant coach at Regis High School for the past 21 years, the last 14 with Coach McHorney, where he coached first base in addition to coaching the outfielders.

In February 2006, John was honored to have been named the Assistant Coach of the Year for 2005 by the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association.

John has been married for 39 years to his wife Mary. He has two grown sons: Craig and Brian. He also has three grandchildren: Liam, Riley and Jacob.
John has had the opportunity to participate in the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Fantasy Camp for the last three years, which gave him the chance to play for and talk baseball with former Brewer players, such as Cecil Cooper, Gorman Thomas, Don Money, Jim Gantner and Jerry Augustine.

 

Steve Page - Assistant Coach


Steve PageSteve has been a baseball fan as long as he can remember. He grew up in Southern California and played ball there for twelve years. During his high school days Steve ran cross country and competed for the track team while also playing baseball.

In 1972 the Page family moved to West Central Wisconsin. Steve played American Legion ball until college. A knee injury forced him to the sidelines, but also started him on his coaching career. He has coached at many levels during the past thirty-four years. During the past three years he has been the pitchers/catchers coach. At Regis High School 2005 he helped them become Western Cloverbelt Champions, as well as the 2007 State Runner-up team. He also has served on the Cavalier Board of Directors for eight years.

Steve retired from the Eau Claire Police Department in June 2006, after thirty-one years. He spent half of his time in patrol and half in the detective division, stepping down as a Detective Sergeant.

Since 1991, Steve has been an instructor for the Chippewa Valley Technical College, the Wisconsin Police Corps at the State Patrol Academy, and Indianhead Technical College. He is currently a manager in the law enforcement academies at each of the colleges.

Steve and Barb Page have been married thirty-two years. They have three children: A daughter Shannon and two sons, Christopher and Ryan.
